MTaPS has developed a microlearning course with three videos to raise awareness and promote understanding of why strengthening the pharmaceutical system is important for maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH). The user-friendly videos aim to motivate viewers to learn more about pharmaceutical systems strengthening (PSS), which is pivotal to improving MNCH outcomes in low- and middle-income countries.

The course is geared toward MNCH program managers from Ministries of Health, implementing partners supporting MNCH programs, non-state actors including the civil society, and donors, particularly USAID staff involved in MNCH programming.

The first video summarizes what a pharmaceutical system is and how it relates to sustainable access and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured medical products for MNCH. The second video describes what regulation of medical products is and why regulatory systems are critical for improving access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, and quality-assured medical products and improving MNCH outcomes. The third video highlights the importance of financing of medical products and devices for women and children’s health and the role of different strategies to contribute to ensuring universal coverage of life-saving medical products for women, newborns and children.

The MNCH microlearning course can be accessed on LeaderNet as well. The course is also integrated into the USAID MTaPS Pharmaceutical Systems Strengthening (PSS) 101 e-learning course, which is available on Leadernet.org – a free and open knowledge platform for global health professionals.
