Since 2021, Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has been using an open-source dynamic routing tool to execute distributions across Zambia by following the example of commercial supply chains where dynamic routing has long been the gold standard. This tool, whose source code is available on Github, is deployed as a cloud-based solution that receives digital data from the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Logistics Management Information System (LMIS) at ZAMMSA and combines this with digital road network data from openrouteservice.org to feed into an open-source route optimization solver to dynamically generate optimal routes for all orders available for delivery within minutes.
